While spray basting another project (a spoon flower doodle game--you can see the process I used
here), I finally decided to get out my
lone star quilt and spray baste it as well. It was my first time using a spray basting (Dritz, because it was on sale), and everything went smoothly, though I do not like all the sticky residue.
 |
As far as I got last time I worked on it. |
I spent a little time working on a quilting sketch today, and then transferring/repeating it onto the quilt.
 |
I traced the outline of one of the stars and then use a pencil to try out different ideas. |
I added some more lines, and planned some free motion feathers. Once the kids were in bed I got to quilt on it finally! But you know how something weird happens when you're quilting/sewing and you don't realize why until later? Well for no reason my machine made very small stitches in one area, as though the feed dogs weren't working correctly, but it passed quickly. Then I decided I should actually clear off my sewing table, instead of just pushing things out of the way when the quilt drug them around...and found this:
 |
Whoops! Quilted that right in. |
Haha, yeah, note to self: clean tables off before quilting a sticky quilt. Anyway, I'm quite happy with how it is progressing! Here's where I finished for the evening:
 |
I am quilting on the pink side with black thread, and have pink thread in the bobbin (it's flipped over so you can see both sides in this photo). Not exactly easy to get the tension just right. |
But now I am not sure what to do next...hoping for some inspiration while I sleep!
Ooh, very pretty. Great idea to reverse colours for both sides. This willl be such a beauty when finished.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great design for your lonestar! You're so creative
ReplyDeletevery pretty indeed- the lonestar is my favorite quilt pattern and I love your version. I really like where you are going with the quilting. You are very brave to use a different color thread in the bobbin- you are right, it is so hard to get the tension just right so that the threads don't show up on the wrong side- but I am sure the effect will be beautiful and well worth the effort when you are done.
ReplyDeleteYour quilting looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in your star! I was resistant to spray basting myself, but am falling in love with it. So quick and easy. Can't wait to see this finishes:)
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! Love the quilting.
ReplyDeleteI like this quilt. Can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteI almost always have different color threads on the top and in the bobbin - it does make getting the tension just right important!
That is very pleasing to the eye!! Great idea to have the feathers within the curves!!!
ReplyDeleteI love spray basting! Your FMQ is fabulous!!! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI have a lonestar wip sitting in my cupboard. Your great work reminded me I needed to finish it up.
ReplyDeleteThe quilting is beautiful! I agree about the spray baste residue; it is easier than pin basting, but I still prefer pin basting.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I've never tried spray basting. Might put it on my list for one day. I *have* quilted tho gs from my table right into the quilt! Looks like that one might be an easy fix. :)
ReplyDeletehahahaahaha, renee, that picture of the paper attached to your quilt is awesome. this is one of my all time favs of yours! i love the different threads especially. beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour quilting is amazing - love those feathers!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love the two colored quilting....its looking good
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Funny mistake. I do things like that. LOL. I enjoyed my visit from WIP.
ReplyDeleteI am following you now.
Happy Stitching.
Sherry
I've had the backing fold ever and stitched it down wrong, but never picked up randomness from the table and quilted it in! lol, the photo is awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilting so far and can not wait to see how it finishes!
Haha! I've stitched the corner of the backing by mistake, but never a piece of paper! I would imagine that was easy to remove at least. Your quilting looks fantastic.
