Ready to Quilt!

I finally got this quilted basted!  It has been ready to quilt for about a week, actually.  But several other projects had looming deadlines, and this quilt has been patiently waiting.  Hoping to start the quilting next week!

The quilt top measures 90" x 96", the star is 60" across.  I had to move all the furniture in this room to make enough space for it.

Pin basting, using a chopstick with a notch at the tip for closing the pins (my cheap-o version of the Kwik Klip).

Two hours and 400+ pins later:

I can't wait to start quilting on this!  I have some beautiful pink thread I know will be perfect.

  1. Wow! Dedication :) Once I get to this point, I have very little patience left. Can't wait to see how it comes out. Will you machine or hand quilt this?

  2. Beautiful, Renee! That is a large quilt. What is the largest you've ever quilted yourself? I know you are going to perform your quilting magic on this and I really look forward to seeing what you do! So much negative space for your creative fun! :)

  3. Seeing a quilt all basted up is one of the best sights in the world! What kind of quilting are you thinking?

  7. I am about to baste my biggest quilt ever (80x88) on my kitchen table because I don't want to scratch my floor with the pins. What did you do to avoid scratching your wood floor there?

    The quilt looks beautiful!

  9. I love your ideas and your work. Thank you for sharing how you do your basting (what you have to go through...moving the furniture, time it took you on your knees, etc.). We all have our own methods; whatever works and gets the job done. For me, I spend too much time reading how "everyone else" does their basting (or whatever) then I don't get much of anything done!

And i totally admire your dedication to basting. There's no way i could pin baste something so big. I hate basting! But pin basting even more!
